Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the metal chelating, radical-scavenging and anti-lipid peroxidative properties and the chlorogenic acid/rutin contents of two endemic Prangos species; Prangos heyniaeH. Duman & M. F. Watson and Prangos denticulataFisch. & Mey. According to high-performance liquid chromatography analysis, the highest rutin and chlorogenic acid contents were found in P.denticulata leaf methanol extract (33.62.8g/mg extract) and P.heyniae leaf methanol extract (24.8 +/- 0.2g/mg extract), respectively. The water and methanol extracts of the species showed high scavenging abilities and significant capacities to suppress lipid peroxidation. These results demonstrated that chlorogenic acid may be an important component in the antioxidant activities of these Prangos species.
