Hamstring kas kısalığında miyofasyal gevşetme tekniğinin posterior zincir kaslarının mobilitesi, solunum fonksiyonları, solunum kas kuvveti ve enduransı üzerine etkisi / The effect of myofascial release technique on the posterior chain muscle mobility, respiratory functions, respiratory muscle strength and endurance in subjects with short hamstring muscle
Abstract
The purpose of our study; to investigate the effect of myofascial release technique applied to individuals with Hamstring muscle shortness on mobility of the posterior chain muscles, respiratory function, respiratory muscle strength and respiratory muscle endurance. This study was carried out prospectively between 15 March and 2 April 2018, including 15 female and 15 male volunteers who were educated and working at İstinye University and whose mean age was 22.93 ± 4.46. Demographic information of individuals was recorded by a physiotherapist who was unaware of the subject of the study. To provide standardization, lower extremity lengths (metric tape measure) and normal range of motion (goniometer) were measured. Hamstring muscle mobility (popliteal angle test), Gastrocinemius, Soleus muscles, cervical region mobility (inclinometer), lumbar region mobility (Schober testi), Tensor Fascia Lata and hip flexor muscles flexibility (inclinometer) posterior chain muscles were mobility as a whole (finger-to-floor distance), respiratory functions (spirometer), respiratory muscle strength (mouth pressure measurement device) and respiratory muscle endurance (threshold loading device). Following the initial evaluations, individuals with short Hamstring muscle were randomly divided into treatment group (n = 15) and control group (n = 15). A single session of myofascial release technique was applied to the individuals in the treatment group and a single session ultrasound was used as a sham, while a single session ultrasound was applied as a sham to individuals in the control group by a second physiotherapist. Following the sessions, the individuals were again evaluated by the first physiotherapist. For the analysis of the data, the Windows based IBM SPSS Statistics 22 program was used. Statistically significant level was accepted as p<0,05. When the first and last evaluations of the treatment group were compared, statistically significant differences were found in axillar and xiphoid level inspiration and chest wall mobility, posterior chain muscle mobility, FEV1, PEF and % PEF, respiratory muscle strength and respiratory muscle endurance (p<0,05). When the final evaluations of the control group were examined, there was a statistically significant difference only in the cervical flexion movement and in the mobilization of the right extremity gastrocinemius muscle and respiratory muscle endurance according to the first evaluation (p<0,05). Comparing the measurement differences between treatment and control groups, there was a statistically significant difference between the groups in favor of the treatment group in all chest circumference measurements except for subcostal level expiration and chest wall mobility, posterior chain muscle mobility, respiratory muscle strength parameters and respiratory muscle endurance. The results of this study showed that myofascial relaxation technique is an effective technique to increase the chest wall mobility, posterior chain muscle mobility, respiratory muscle strength and respiratory muscle endurance. {{abstract}}
