dc.description.abstractEVALUATION OF MASSETERIC VESTIBULAR EVOKED POTENTIALS IN PATIENTS WITH MIGRAINEABSTRACTMasseteric vestibular evoked potentials (mVEMP) are short-latency, short- duration, bilateral EMG responses that occur in active masseter muscles of healthy subjects in response to unilateral or bilateral electrical vestibular stimulation (EVS). mVEMP reflects the connection between the vestibular complex and trigeminal nerve nuclei.Considering the hypothesis that migraine occurs due to increased activation in the trigeminal nerve, it was thought that mVEMP responses reflecting the connection between the vestibular complex and trigeminal nerve nuclei may be affected in patients with migraine. Therefore, our study aimed to compare the click and 500 Hz tone burst stimulus evoked mVEMP responses in patients with migraine.The study included 20 migraineurs and 20 healthy individuals aged 18-50 years, without systemic, metabolic disorders, or vestibular complaints.In the migraine group, significantly prolonged N1 latency in mVEMP responses recorded with click stimulus; Significantly decreased N1-P1 amplitude was obtained in mVEMP responses recorded with tone burst stimulus. There was no significant difference between the groups in the amplitude asymmetry ratio. In the mVEMP evaluation performed with both stimuli, the number of pathological ears in the migraine group was found to be significantly higher. No significant difference was observed in the number of pathological ears in the migraine and control groups according to the stimulus types. There was no correlation between MIDAS scores and mVEMP results in the migraine group.Keywords: mVEMP, migraine, trigeminal nerve
