Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors of 4th Year Students of Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy in Bezmialem Vakif University about Rational Medicine and Its Use
    (2021-06-01) Kaner Z. S.; Özyıldırım B.; ÖZYILDIRIM, BEDİA
Introduction: The use of wrong, unnecessary, ineffective and costly drugs all over the world causes problems of various dimensions. These effects include increased morbidity and mortality rates. For these reasons, various solutions have been tried to be produced and developed in the world. In this context, \"Rational Drug Use\" studies have been initiated in the world. Physicians, pharmacists, other groups can be considered as responsible parties in raising awareness on rational drug use and raising public awareness. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of the students of the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy about rational drug use in order to raise the awareness about rational drug use in future physicians and pharmacists. Method: In the evaluation of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors regarding rational drug use, Bezmialem Vakif University 4th year Medicine and 4th year Pharmacy students in the 2019/2020 academic year were selected as the study universe. In the population of the study, Bezmialem Vakif University Faculties of Medicine (88) and Pharmacy (39) students were included, and there was no exclusion criterion in the selection of the universe. A 15-question questionnaire was applied to evaluate knowledge, attitudes and behaviors regarding rational drug use. The questionnaire to be applied was prepared on the internet using google forms. Results: In the 15-question survey study, a significant difference was found between the 11th (p=0.023) and 15th (<0.001) questions. While pharmacy students used the medication until their complaints were over, medical students preferred to use the medication until the end of the medication. While pharmacy students learned about drug side effects from the pharmacist, medical students preferred to learn from the physician. There was not a meaningful result in other questions. Conclusion: Students trust people in the field in which they are studying. Key words: Rationaldruguse

Evaluation of the Effects of Raisins and Hazelnuts Added To the Diet on Lipid Profiles and Anthropometric Measurements in Women with Hyperlipidemia
    (2019-10-01T00:00:00Z) Özyıldırım, Bedia; ÖZYILDIRIM, BEDİA
Objective:The positive effects of nuts and grape products on lipid profiles have been proved by epidemiological and clinical studies. However, studies investigating the effect of raisins on lipid profiles are limited. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of consuming a cardioprotective control diet, and the cardioprotective diet containing either raisins, hazelnuts, or a combination of raisins and hazelnuts in hyperlipidemic obese women in terms of lipid profiles and anthropometric measurements.Methods:Thirty-seven hyperlipidemic obese women were involved in a parallel controlled randomized clinical trial. Participants were randomly divided into four groups. The control group consumed a cardioprotective diet for six weeks while the other participants consumed 50 g/day hazelnut, 50 g/day raisins or 50 g/day hazelnut +50 g/day raisins in a cardioprotective diet. Blood lipids, blood glucose levels, blood pressure, and anthropometric measurements were measured at the beginning and at the end of the study. Results:There was not any significant difference between groups in terms of lipid profiles, blood glucose, blood pressure and anthropometric measurements (all p>0.05). Compared with initial measurements, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, and body mass index levels decreased statistically significantly

The knowledge and attitudes towards recent regulations on complementary and alternative medicine among students and faculty members in Bezmialem University School of Medicine(BVUSOM)
    (2019-10-01T00:00:00Z) Özyıldırım, Bedia; ÖZYILDIRIM, BEDİA
Turkish government published a -Regulation on Traditional and Complementary Medical Therapies’ (CAM) in 2014. We aimed at assessing the knowledge and the thoughts of medical students and faculty members of BVUSOM on this regulation of Ministry of Health. All the students and faculty members were included in the research (in 2017-2018 academic year). Five hundred thirteen medical faculty students (68.8% of all students) and 90 teaching faculty members (57.7% of the all faculty members) participated to the study. One hundred and forty-eight (28.8%) of the students and 57 (63.3%) of faculty members reported that they know the legal regulation. At least one of the treatment methods suggested in the regulation was applied by 83 (16.2%) of the students. Four hundred (77.9%) of the students and 61 (67.8%) of the faculty members would like to be educated well enough so that they could treat their patients in any area of CAM. Medical students were more likely to show interest in receiving a training in CAM techniques than faculty members (p=0.03).As CAM is still very new area of interest in Turkey. There are several strategies to integrate it to current medical education, including: embedding lectures, organizing multidisciplinary meetings, scheduling elective rotations and informing faculty members.

Ergonomic risk assessment of working postures of nurses working in a medical faculty hospital with REBA and RULA methods
    (2023-10-01) Ayvaz Ö.; ÖZYILDIRIM B.; İşsever H.; Öztan G.; ATAK M.; Özel S.; ÖZYILDIRIM, BEDİA
The aim of the study is to reach objective results about the ergonomic risks of nurses’ working postures not only by using questionnaires but also by using Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) methods, which are risk assessment methods used in engineering fields. This study is a cross-sectional study. First of all, 383 nurses were evaluated with a survey. 91.4% of the nurses were women and 6.5% were men. Average age (female: 38.20; male: 31.5), average weight (female: 65.60 kg; male: 81.50 kg), average height (female: 162.7 cm; male: 176.80 cm) and average body mass index (female: 24.80; male: 26) were calculated. In the hospital, which we grouped into in the hospital, which we divided into eight workstations, the REBA and RULA scores of the three nurses working at each workstation were calculated and the average REBA and RULA scores of the workstations were determined. The percentage of those who experienced musculoskeletal pain in the last 1 year at each workstation and the mean REBA–RULA scores were as follows; ward (92%; 6.92–5.69), operating room (98%; 10–7), emergency department (100%; 6.08–5.33), outpatient clinic (75%; 5.5–5.16), intensive care (94%; 6.21–5.57), administrative affairs (94%; 5–5), laboratory (95%; 5.80–5.2) and interventional procedure (92%; 6.4–5.4). In these stations, the highest scores were seen in the operating room. In the questionnaire, 92.46% of the nurses reported having complaints in at least one part of the musculoskeletal system in the last year. The hospital weighted mean score was REBA 6.86 and RULA 5.71. When REBA and RULA measurements were evaluated, it was determined that the risk in the departments where the nurses worked was generally at the medium risk level. REBA and RULA scores indicate that ergonomic changes and adjustments should be made. For this determination, the risks of working postures should be determined with quantitative methods.
