METABOLIC SYNDROME IN COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE SECTOR

2012-01-01T00:00:00Z, Eker, Hasan Huseyin, BAYRAKTARLI, Recep Yilmaz, Issever, Halim, Ulas, Tumer, Erelel, Mustafa, ESER, ALİ, OZDILLI, Kursat, Ozder, ACLAN, ESER, ALİ, ÖZDER, ACLAN

Objectives: This study aims to assess the frequency and factors relevant to metabolic syndrome in workers employed in the collection and disposal of solid waste sector. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the major solid waste collecting and disposal company named ISTAC AS (Istanbul Environmental Protection and Waste Processing Corporation) in Istanbul, Turkey. All 715 male employees of the company were included in the study without sampling. The study was completed with 619 subjects. Since it was a small group, female workers were not taken into account in the study. Metabolic syndrome frequency was investigated according to the NCEP-ATP III criteria including the levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, waist perimeter, HDL, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose values. Results: Metabolic syndrome was present in 40.9% of participating employees. Metabolic syndrome was more common in those working in the excavation field (54.0%), such as caterpillar operators (56.5%), and less common in employees working in administrative offices, such as office staff or managers, who were under 35 years old and who had been working for less than 10 years (p < 0.05). Employees working in work stations other than administrative offices had a 2.60 times higher risk compared to those working in administrative offices. Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome may be related to work station, job, age and period worked by the subjects.

Flurbiprofene bağlı tek taraflı perioküler kanama: Nadir bir ilaç yan etkisi

2019-10-01T00:00:00Z, Yüksel, Zeyneb İrem, Özder, Aclan, ÖZDER, ACLAN

Non-steroidal anti-inflamatuar ilaçlar birçok endikasyonda sıklıklakullanılmaktadır. Bu ilaçların nadir görülen yan etkileri debilinmelidir. Bu çalışmada 100 mg oral flurbiprofen alımındansonra gelişen tek taraflı perioküler kanama ile başvuran 50 yaşındabir kadın olguyu sunmayı amaçladık. Hastanın oftalmik muayenesindesaptanan perioküler kanamaya neden olabilecek olası tanılarıayırt edebilmek için bilgisayarlı tomografi ve manyetik rezonansgörüntüleme yapıldı. Hastada travma öyküsünün olmadığı ayrıntılıolarak sorgulandı. Görüntülemelerde sadece sol göz ve çevresindeyumuşak doku ödemi mevcuttu. Laboratuvar değerlerinden laktatdehidrogenaz ve c-reaktif proteinde hafif yükseklik dışında herhangibir anormal bulgu saptanmadı. Hastaya semptomatik olaraktedavi planlandı ve hastanın kontrol muayenesinde biyokimyasalve hematolojik parametreleri normal olarak tespit edildi. Periokülerkanama gerilemişti. Kanamalı cilt lezyonları flurbiprofenin nadirbir ilaç yan etkisi olarak akılda tutulmalıdır.Anahtar kelimeler: Flurbiprofen, periokular, kanama, yan etkiler

Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio as useful predictive tool for glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes: Retrospective, single centre study in Turkey

2022-06-01T00:00:00Z, Yüksel Salduz, Zeyneb İrem, Özder, Aclan, YÜKSEL SALDUZ, ZEYNEB İREM, ÖZDER, ACLAN

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the inflammatory cells in the complete blood count test and their relationship with the glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes patients. Methods: The retrospective clinical study was conducted at the Department of Family Medicine, Bezmialem Vakif University, Istanbul, Turkey, from January 2015 to June 2016, and comprised adult type 2 diabetes patients- data, like complete blood count and biochemical parameters. The data was stratified according to glycated haemoglobin levels; <7% in group 1, and >7% in group 2. Data was analysed using SPSS 21. Results: Of the 320 subjects, 172(54%) were in group 1 and 148(46%) in group 2. Overall, there were 106(33%) male and 214(67%) female subjects. The mean age of the sample was 53.6±11.9 years. White blood cell count, neutrophil count and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios were significantly higher in group 2. Red blood cell count, mean platelet volume, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, alanine aminotransferase levels were also significantly higher in group 2 (p <0.05). Conclusion: Simple complete blood count test can be used as a cost-effective tool to monitor glycaemic regulation in type 2 diabetes patients.
