In addition, the impact of these compounds is specific for each type and/or subtypes of cancer due to different treatment response. Rutaecarpine, an alkaloid obtained from Evodia Rutaecarpa Chinese herb, has anticancer activity by inhibiting topoisomerase and/or cyclo-oxygenase-2 levels. However, the effectiveness of rutaecarpine has not been well known in breast cancer in terms of subtype. Therefore, we investigated the potential therapeutic effects of rutaecarpine on two different subtypes of breast cancer cells. Materials and methods: The cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of rutaecarpine on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells were analyzed by WST-1, Annexin V, cell cycle, and acridine orange staining. Results: WST-1 results indicated that rutaecarpine significantly inhibited the growth of both cancer cells for 48 h (P < 0.05). In addition, rutaecarpine treatment caused apoptotic cell death through chromatin condensation and nuclear blebbing and G0/G1 arrest in both breast cancer cells. However, the efficacy of rutaecarpine was more profound in MCF-7 cells than MDA-MB-231 cells. Conclusions: Consequently, rutaecarpine has a potential therapeutic effect on breast cancer. However, the effectiveness of rutaecarpine is dependent on the subtype of breast cancer.Publication Metadata only Metastatik prostat kanserinde toll benzeri reseptörler (TLRs)’in aktivitesi ve apoptoz ile ilişkisi(2019-06-27T00:00:00Z) Küçükakça, Bilge Nur; İnce, Merve Nur; Özman, Zeynep; Aktaş, Oğuzhan; Bezdegümeli, Erhan; Men, Ahmet Yasir; Deveci, Asuman; Güney, Gamze; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEPPublication Metadata only Anti-cancer activity of valproic acid in triple negative breast cancer cells.(2019-10-07T00:00:00Z) Şahin, Elvan; Güney, Gamze; Özbek İpteç, Betül; Deveci, Asuman; Bakırdöğen, Merve Almula; Özman, Zeynep; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEPPublication Metadata only Gastrointestinal kanser hastalarında İrinotekan ve Oksaliplatin direncinde IL-6/JAK/STAT3 sinyal yolağının etkisi.(2019-11-04T00:00:00Z) İnce, Merve Nur; Güney, Gamze; Deveci, Asuman; Bezdegümeli, Erhan; Özman, Zeynep; Bakırdöğen, Merve Almula; Şahin, Elvan; Men, Ahmet Yasir; Bilir, Cemil; Kaleli, Süleyman; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEPPublication Metadata only Pankreas Kanseri Hastalarında İrinotekan Direncinde GSK3β ve SMAD4’ün Ekspresyon Seviyelerinin Değerlendirilmesi(2019-11-04T00:00:00Z) Bakırdöğen, Merve Almula; Güney, Gamze; Deveci, Asuman; Özman, Zeynep; Bezdegümeli, Erhan; İnce, Merve Nur; Şahin, Elvan; Bilir, Cemil; Kaleli, Süleyman; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEPPublication Metadata only Evaluation of Menopausal Hormone Replacement Therapy in Breast Cancer(2019-08-21T00:00:00Z) Deveci, Asuman; Özman, Zeynep; Güney, Gamze; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEPPublication Metadata only Kanser hastalarında AKT-temelli GSK3β’nın kaşeksi gelişiminde rolünün belirlenmesi.(2019-11-04T00:00:00Z) Özman, Zeynep; Güney, Gamze; Bilir, Cemil; Deveci, Asuman; Bakırdöğen, Merve Almula; İnce, Merve Nur; Bezdegümeli, Erhan; Aktaş, Oğuzhan; Kaleli, Süleyman; ÖZMAN, ZEYNEP
