It results in oxidative nuclear and mitochondrial DNA damage which is implicated in the pathogenesis of a wide variety of diseases. During oxidative stress in mammalian cells, one of the most potentially oxidized mutagenic DNA lesions formed upon DNA repair is 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), a frequently detected nucleoside repair product. Numerous evidences reported significant elevated levels of 8-OHdG in many conditions, including cancer, diabetes mellitus and cancer radio-chemotherapy. Moreover, its level is positively correlated with the severity of diabetic micro- and macro-vascular complications suggesting 8-OHdG as a novel and pivotal biomarker in the assessment of various conditions related to generalized, cellular oxidative stress and oxidative DNA damage.Publication Metadata only Oncology Pharmacy Practice: The Clinical Pharmacist’s Perspective(2021-07-01T00:00:00Z) Bektay, Muhammed Yunus; İzzettin, Fikret Vehbi; BEKTAY, MUHAMMED YUNUS; İZZETTİN, FIKRET VEHBIIncidence of cancer is increasing all over the world and personalized therapies have become the trend in cancer therapy. Multidisciplinary approaches provide successful results for personalized therapies. As a part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, oncology pharmacists (OPs) contribute to the rational use of chemotherapy by providing individual pharmaceutical care for cancer patients. A multidisciplinary approach is crucial for the success of cancer therapy. Pharmacists acting as a counsellor for medication-related issues in the multidisciplinary team have a vital role in the oncology setting. OPs are the clinical pharmacists specialized in oncology and they are involved in planning and implementation of pharmaceutical care. Additionally, OPs play an important role in providing comprehensive medication management and related care for cancer patients.
