The influence of retention hole and adhesive systems on the shear bond strengths of resin composite to amalgam

2014-10-01, Tuncer, Safa, Demirci, Mustafa, Tiryaki, Murat, Uysal, Omer, UYSAL, ÖMER

The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of surface-treatment methods with and without the use of a retention hole on the shear bond strength of a resin composite adhered to amalgam using an adhesive system. Amalgam specimens were divided into six groups. Group 1 (Bur) specimens were roughened with a diamond bur, Group 2 (Al2O3) specimens were sandblasted with a 50 m aluminum oxide powder, Group 3 (CoJet (R)) specimens were sandblasted with 30 mu m CoJet (R) Sand, Group 4 (Bur + Rh) specimen surfaces were prepared with a retention hole 1 mm in diameter and 1 mm deep and roughened with a diamond bur, Group 5 (Al2O3 + Rh) specimens were also prepared with a retention hole and sandblasted with 50 mu m aluminum oxide powder, and Group 6 (CoJet (R) + Rh) surfaces were prepared with a retention hole and sandblasted with 30 mu m CoJet (R) Sand. Resin composite cylinders were bonded onto the amalgam surfaces using Xeno (R) IV, Optibond (TM) All-In-One, Clearfil (TM) SE Bond, Adper (TM) Single Bond Plus, and Scotchbond (TM) Multi-Purpose adhesive systems. In addition, silane (Monobond S) was used for Groups 5 and 6. The shear bond was determined and statistically analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey-s tests (p <= 0.05). The surface treatment significantly affected the shear bond strengths of the adhesive systems. The shear bond strengths of Optibond (TM) All-In-One (2.661 +/- 0.48 MPa) in Group 1 and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (3.818 +/- 0.98) in Group 4 were significantly higher than those of the other adhesive systems. Silica coating of the amalgam surface significantly improved the shear bond strength of the resin composites. The addition of a retention hole on the amalgam affects the bonding strength of the composite adhesion.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Could Unmask Hypertension in Patients with Psoriasis Vulgaris

2013-10-29, BACAKSIZ, AHMET, Erdogan, Ercan, Sonmez, Osman, Sevgili, Emrah, Tasal, Abdurrahman, ONSUN, NAHİDE, Topukcu, Bugce, Kulac, Beytullah, UYSAL, ÖMER, Goktekin, Omer, BACAKSIZ, AHMET, ONSUN, NAHIDE, UYSAL, ÖMER

Background: Psoriasis vulgaris is one of the most prevalent chronic, inflammatory skin disorders. Patients with psoriasis have excess risk of essential hypertension. Masked hypertension (MH), defined as normal office blood pressure (BP) with elevated ambulatory BP (ABPM), has been drawing attention recently due to its association with increased risk of developing sustained hypertension, cardiovascular morbidity, and mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of MH in psoriatic patients. Material and Methods: On hundred and ten middle-aged, normotensive, non-obese patients with psoriasis vulgaris and 110 age- and sex-matched normotensive controls were included in the study. ABPM was performed in all participants over a 24-h period. The clinical severity of the disease was determined according to current indexes. Results: The prevalence of MH among subjects with psoriasis vulgaris was 31.8% and increased compared to control subjects (p<0.01). Predictors of MH in patients with psoriasis vulgaris were detected as male sex, smoking, obesity-related anthropometric measures, and disease activity. Male sex, waist circumference, and diffuse psoriatic involvement were detected as independent predictors of MH. Conclusions: MH is prevalent in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. Assessment with ABPM and close follow-up for development of hypertension is reasonable.

SIRT1 gene variants are related to risk of childhood obesity

2015-04-01, Kilic, Ulkan, GOK, Ozlem, ELIBOL-CAN, BİRSEN, Ozgen, Ilker Tolga, Erenberk, UFUK, Uysal, Omer, DUNDAROZ, Mehmet Rusen, ELİBOL, BİRSEN, ÖZGEN, İLKER TOLGA, ERENBERK, UFUK, UYSAL, ÖMER

Obesity is a multifactorial disorder resulting from the interaction between genetic, psychological, physical, environmental, and socioeconomic factors. SIRT1 gene has important effects on the regulation of adiponectin, caloric restriction, insulin sensitivity, coronary atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between childhood obesity and SIRT1 gene polymorphisms regarding rs7895833 A > G in the promoter region, rs7069102 C > G in intron 4, and rs2273773 C > T in exon 5 using PCR-CTPP method in 120 obese and 120 normal weight children. In this study, BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, and insulin levels were significantly higher and HDL-cholesterol levels were significantly lower in obese children compared to normal weight children. For rs7895833 A > G, the rate of having AG genotype and G allele was significantly higher in obese children compared to non-obese group (p T. There was no significant difference for rs7069102 C > G gene polymorphism between groups.
