Abstract
The role of genetic factors in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, which is heterogeneous in both histopathological and clinical ways, has come into prominence. Especially, expression profiles of miRNA are shown to be different in various cancers, to regulate expression of mRNA or to have a role in inhibition of translation, thus it shows the possible effect in progression, invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells. The effect of breast conserving treatment in local recurrence and survival rates for the patients who has multifocal breast cancer is still controversial. In our study, we intended to evaluate the foresight of 84 miRNAs which is identifed in breast cancer for having differentiated expressions. 31 patients with unifocal, and 26 patients with multicentric breast cancer who admitted to General Surgery Department of Bezmialem Vakif University Hospital and who have no any other cancer known before, nor any neoadjuvant therapy prior to surgery were included in this study. The tissue samples of both tumoral and normal breast tissues which were taken during the operation procedure were kept in "RNA later solution" at -80°C. In all of the samples, 84 miRNAs were studied with "Human Breast Cancer miRNA PCR Array" at Division of Medical Genetics, Department of Internal Medicine, Istanbul Medical Faculty, Istanbul University. Fold change cut off value was accepted as four. As the results; in unifocal group there were 13 upregulated and five downregulated miRNAs, and in multicentric group, there were three upregulated and seven downregulated miRNAs.
