The aim of this study is to investigate the oxidative and antioxidative status in children with AU. Eighty-seven children with noninfectious AU and 70 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Blood samples were taken for complete blood count, serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels routinely and for TOS and TAS. The skin prick test was performed and/or specific IgE assays were performed as indicated. Blood samples were also taken for TAS and TOS in the control group. Forty-eight (55%) of the children with AU were male, 39 (45%) of them were female. Mean ages were 6 +/- 2.02 and 7 +/- 1.38 years in the study and control groups, respectively. TOS levels were significantly high and TAS levels were significantly lower in the acute urticarial group (P < 0.001) than controls. There was no significant correlation between age, total IgE levels, or eosinophil count and TAS and TOS levels in children with AU. Plasma TOS levels are elevated in children with AU. The high level of TOS indicates that children with AU were exposed to severe oxidative stress.Publication Metadata only Bone mineral density and associated parameters in pre-pubertal children with asthma treated with long-term fluticasone propionate.(2013-03-01) OZKAYA, EMİN; Çakır, ERKAN; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ERENBERK, UFUK; DUNDARÖZ, MR; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; ÇAKIR, ERKAN; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ERENBERK, UFUKPublication Metadata only Evaluation of 563 children with chronic cough acompanied by a new clinical algorithm(2016-06-13T00:00:00Z) Nursoy, Mustafa Atilla; Gedik, Ahmet Hakan; Çakır, Erkan; Doğan Demir, Ayşegül; Erenberk, Ufuk; Uzuner, Selçuk; Özkaya, Emin; Aksoy, Mehmed Fadlulah; NURSOY, MUSTAFA ATİLLA; ÇAKIR, ERKAN; DOĞAN DEMİR, AYŞEGÜL; ERENBERK, UFUK; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; AKSOY, FADLULLAHPublication Metadata only Skin temperature measurement using an infrared thermometer on patients who have been exposed to cold.(2013-12-01) ERENBERK, UFUK; TORUN, EMEL; OZKAYA, EMİN; Uzuner, SELÇUK; DEMIR, AD; DUNDAROZ, R; ERENBERK, UFUK; TORUN, EMEL; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; UZUNER, SELÇUKPublication Metadata only Evaluation of Autonomic Nervous System function in Children with Overactive Bladder Syndrome(2017-03-01) DEMIR, Aysegul Dogan; Gursoy, AZİZE ESRA; GOKNAR, Nilufer; Uzuner, SELÇUK; Ozkaya, EMİN; Erenberk, UFUK; Vehapoglu, Aysel; DUNDAROZ, Mehmet Rusen; OKTEM, Faruk; GÜRSOY, AZIZE ESRA; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; ERENBERK, UFUK; VEHAPOĞLU TÜRKMEN, AYSELPurpose We aimed to evaluate the autonomic nervous system activity in children with overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome. Methods Included in the study were 40 children with overactive bladder and 28 healthy controls. Autonomic tests were performed on all participants, including heart rate interval variation (RRIV), heart rate response to valsalva maneuver, and sympathetic skin response (SSR).Results Mean valsalva rates in the overactive bladder and control groups were 1.530.29 and 1.30 +/- 0.18, respectively, a statistically significant difference (P0.05).Conclusions This study demonstrated a parasympathetic hyperactivity in children with OAB, results suggesting a dysfunction in their autonomic nervous systems. We aimed to investigate serum PON1 activity in children with acute bronchiolitis. MATERIALS and METHODS: A total of 29 children aged between 3-21 months with acute bronchiolitis and 35 age-matched healthy controls were included in the study. Bronchiolitis patients were further classified as mild (65%) and moderate (35%). Paraoxonase and arylesterase activities of PON1 were compared between patients with acute bronchiolitis and the control group. RESULTS: Paraoxonase activity of children with acute bronchiolitis was lower than healthy controls but the difference was not significant (127.53 ± 64.17 U/L versus 153.95 ± 74.40 U/L) (p=0.13). Arylesterase activity was significantly decreased in children with mild and moderate bronchiolitis in comparison to the control group (142.43± 56.60 kU/L and 103.70± 26.03 kU/L versus 201.09± 57.26 kU/L) (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Serum PON1 activity was lower in children with acute bronchiolitis compared to controls. Increasing antioxidant capacity may be an effective means of therapy in viral induced lung disease.Publication Metadata only Total antioxidant and oxidant status in obese children without insulin resistance(2014-01-01) DOĞAN DEMİR, AYŞEGÜL; ERENBERK, UFUK; ÖZGEN, İLKER TOLGA; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; VEHAPOĞLU TÜRKMEN, AYSEL; DÜNDARÖZ, MEHMET RUŞEN; EREL, ÖZCAN; DOĞAN DEMİR, AYŞEGÜL; ERENBERK, UFUK; ÖZGEN, İLKER TOLGA; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; VEHAPOĞLU TÜRKMEN, AYSELPublication Metadata only İnsülin direnci olmayan obez çocuklarda total antioksidan kapasite ve total oksidatif durum(2012-10-10) Dündaröz, Ruşen; ERENBERK, UFUK; ÖZGEN, İLKER TOLGA; DOĞAN DEMİR, AYŞEGÜL; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; Erel, Özcan; ERENBERK, UFUK; ÖZGEN, İLKER TOLGA; DOĞAN DEMİR, AYŞEGÜL; ÖZKAYA, EMİNPublication Metadata only A comparison of total antioxidant levels in breast-fed and formula- fed infants(2012-06-01T00:00:00Z) Alpinar, Abdullah; TORUN, EMEL; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ERENBERK, UFUK; TORUN, EMEL; ÖZKAYA, EMİN; UZUNER, SELÇUK; ERENBERK, UFUKAim: We aimed to evaluate the effect of breast milk and formula on the total antioxidant capacity of the plasma.
