Anti-CD10 (56C6) expression in soft tissue sarcomas

CD10 is known to be expressed in certain types of leukemia, in lymphomas and also in various types of carcinoma. However, data regarding CD10 expression in soft tissue sarcomas is scarce. Two hundred and two retrospective soft tissue sarcoma specimens were evaluated for CD10 expression immunohistochemically. The clinical records of these patients were reviewed, and clinical data was obtained for all patients. Our results showed that 90 of the 202 cases were found to express CD10. 72% of malignant fibrous histiocytomas, 45% of fibrosarcomas, 34% of rhabdomyosarcomas, 50% of leiomyosarcomas, 22% of liposarcomas, 72% of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, and 0% of the primitive neuroectodermal tumors were positive for CD10. Nearly half of the soft tissue sarcomas were found to express CD10. Stronger CD10 expression was found in high grade sarcomas. (C) 2012 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

Objective: We investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of ozone therapy (OT) in radiotherapy (RT)‑induced testicular damage. Methods: Thirty healthy adult male Wistar rats divided into five groups consisting of six animals each as follows: (1) Control (C), (2) RT, (3) OT, (4) OT + RT, and (5) RT + OT group. Histopathological findings, Johnsen scores, thiobarbituric acid‑reactive substances (TBARS), glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels were evaluated. Results: RT caused a significant decrease in testicular weight and Johnsen score compared to the control group. In addition, TBARS level was significantly higher, whereas GSH, SOD, catalase, and GPx levels were significantly lower in the RT group when compared to the control group. Pre and postRT OT significantly increased GSH, SOD, catalase, and GPx levels and decreased TBARS level. Furthermore, testicular weight and Johnsen score were increased with OT. Conclusions: The present study showed that OT is protective and therapeutic in radiation‑induced testicular damage. OT may be beneficial to the patients who underwent RT.

Report of a Case of Signet Ring Carcinoma Presenting as Gastric Mucosal Thickening: A Diagnostic Dilemma

The number of cancer cases has been increasing worldwide. Early diagnosis and tumor resection remain as the most effective treatments for gastric cancer. However, early diagnosis is not always possible as it is frequently not possible to make treatment decisions without pathologic diagnosis in patients with clinically suspected cancer. This causes delays in diagnosing cancer. We presented a 58 years old woman with gastric signet ring cell carcinoma that could not be diagnosed despite using four different methods of stomach biopsies. We aimed to emphasize that despite the use of advanced methods, if clinical cancer in non-diagnosed cases is suspected, we should be more aggressive for early diagnosis.

Background: Amikacin has the largest spectrum among aminoglycosides, its nephrotoxic effect limits its utilization. Our purpose in this study is to review the protective effect of dexpanthenol against the nephrotoxic effect of amikacin, accompanied with histopathological and biochemical parameters.

It has shown that the decrease of blood glucose levels in patient with diabetes mellitus decreases mortality and morbidity rates. Main purpose in diabetes is to achieve and prevent the glycemic control. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between poor glycemic control and metabolic parameters, individual life and complications. Seven hundred fifty seven patients with type II diabetes mellitus have evaluated with demographical characteristic, body mass index, abdominal circumferences, blood pressures, dietary compliances, physical exercise statuses and laboratory analysis; and the relationship of these parameteres were investigated. Poor glycemic control was found significantly associated with duration of diabetes, age of onset, family history, job status, educational status, antidiabetic drugs, body mass index, abdominal circumference, hypertension, lipid and fasting plasma glucose levels. There was a significant relationship between the glycemic control and dietary compliance, physical activity, self blood glucose monitoring and drug compliance. While there is a significant relationship between the poor glycemic control and nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and cardiovascular diseases; no significant relationship was seen in the cerebrovascular diseases and arthropathy. We have pointed the relationship of glycemic control with sociodemographic, medical status, life style, lipid levels and complications. Better results can be obtained by eliminating the factors related to poor glycemic control.
