Abstract
Hantaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses from the Bunyaviridae family. These pathogens are associated with two different and severe illnesses; hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome. Although frequently reported in Europe, until now only 12 cases from the western Black Sea region, 2 from Giresun, 1 from Istanbul have been reported in Turkey. In patients presenting with fever, thrombocytopenia and acute kidney injury (AKI), hantavirus infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis. Our aim is to discuss 2 cases presenting with AKI in the light of updated literature information and increase awareness about this disease in our country.
