Bir Sağlık Üniversitesi Öğrenicilerinin Sigara İçme Davranışlarının Değerlendirilmesi
Abstract
This is study aimed to contribute for decrease of the smoking attitudes which has the most affection on the preventable healty disaeses and also aimed to permanent public health which will expected to have better conditions. Study features include supplemention and relation linked which has sampling by volunteer students of Bezmialem Vakif University. There are 442 university students which has participate to this study. This research started after taking a consents of Bezmialem Vakif University ethic council, foundation and students. In this research information forms examinations prepared by researcher and Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence tests has implemented. Quantitative datas which have gained from this research has evaluate with IBM SPSS statictics 22 program by using Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests. In this study, the socio-demographic characteristics and smoking addiction condition of students were evaluated among to department of health students who will be role models in society. Based on the data collected by the students 64,3% of the students participating in the study were under the age of 20, 83% of them were female, 44,6% of them were first year at university and 84,4% of them were living with their family. Regarding smoking status of students 51,4% have never smoked, also results shown that 20% student used cigarettes. It was determined that smoking was 31% in males and 18% in females. However, the rate of smoking was found to be low in the students who living with their family. Also, study result indicate that although smokers know the harm sides of smoking although continue to used cigarettes and discussion of how to save students receiving health education from the harms of this contradictory situation. Also, smoker student's reasons of starting smoking were evaluated. In the study, students the reasons for trying smoking for the first time curiosity 38 % rate and the wannabe, 29,6% were found to cope with sadness and stress. Statistically significant differences were found in Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence Scale scores among students' smoking status (p: 0,001; p <0,01). The FTND scores of the students who regularly smoked were found to be significantly higher than those who did not use it for a while (p: 0,001) and occasionally smokers (p: 0,003) (p <0,01). The aim of this study is to reduce smoking among students who take health education and to make students who will become role models in the future more knowledgeable and attentive in the matter of smoking. In this context, it has been emphasized that student smokers studying at the University of Health will be less effective to distract society from the urge to use tobacco. In order to keep students away from smoking and other harmful habits, it is recommended to conduct education seminars and increase social and sportive activities at universities.
