Publication Metadata only 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D-3 stimulates odontoblastic differentiation of human dental pulp-stem cells in vitro(2017-01-01T00:00:00Z) MUCUK, GÖKŞEN; SEPET, ELİF; ERGÜVEN, MİNE; EKMEKÇİ, ÖZLEM; BİLİR, AYHAN; MUCUK, GÖKŞENBackground: 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D-3 (1,25-OH D-3) plays an important role in mineralized tissue metabolism, including teeth. However, few studies have addressed its role in odontoblastic differentiation of human dental pulp-stem cells (hDPSCs). Aim: This study aimed to understand the influence of various concentrations of 1,25-OH D-3 on the proliferation capacity and early dentinogenesis responses of hDPSCs. Materials and Methods: hDPSCs were obtained from the impacted third molar teeth. Monolayer cultured cells were incubated with a differentiation medium containing different concentrations of 1,25-OH D-3 (0.001, 0.01, and 0.1 mu M). All groups were evaluated by S-phase rate [immunohistochemical (IHC) bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) staining], STRO-1 and dentin sialoprotein (DSP)+ levels (IHC), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)) levels. Results: The number of cells that entered the S-phase was determined to be the highest and lowest in the control and 0.001 mu M 1,25-OH D-3 groups, respectively. The 0.1 mu M vitamin D-3 group had the highest increase in DSP+ levels. The highest Stro-1 levels were detected in the control and 0.1 mu M 1,25-OH D-3 groups, respectively. The 0.1 mu M 1,25-OH D-3 induced a mild increase in ALP activity. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that 1,25-OH D-3 stimulated odontoblastic differentiation of hDPSCs in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. The high DSP + cell number and a mild increase in ALP activity suggest that DPSCs treated with 0.1 M 1,25-OH D-3 are in the later stage of odontoblastic differentiation. The results confirm that 1,25-OH D-3-added cocktail medium provides a sufficient microenvironment for the odontoblastic differentiation of hDPSCs in vitro.Publication Metadata only A 9-year follow-up of a girl with pyridoxine (vitamin B6)-dependent seizures: magnetic resonance spectroscopy findings(2012-05-01T00:00:00Z) DOĞAN, MÜBEYNA; DOĞAN, DERYA; KAHRAMAN, A. S.; ÖZCAN, ÖZLEM; Yakinci, C.; Alkan, ALPAY; ALKAN, ALPAYBeing an extremely rare condition makes the diagnosis of pyridoxine-dependent seizures (PDS) difficult. Early diagnosis of PDS is very important to prevent unwanted clinical outcomes. Elevated levels of glutamate and decreased levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the frontal and parietal cortices are detected in this disorder. Here we present an 18 year old girl with PDS, who was reported 9 years ago with Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) findings. Present and past MRS findings showed a decrease in N-acetyl-aspartate-to creatine ratio on MRS. In this case it is surprising that neuronal damage has been preceded despite the administration of accurate treatment. That can be because of delay in treatment and/or under treatment.Publication Metadata only A case of Budd-Chiari syndrome associated with alveolar echinococcosis.(2014-04-01T00:00:00Z) Karadas, S; Cumhur, DA; Bilge, G; Mehmet, B; Mustafa, K; SÜMBÜL, BİLGEAlveolar echinococcosis of the liver is caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. Budd-Chiari Syndrome (BCS) is a hepatic venous outflow tract obstruction and involves abdominal pain, hepatomegaly and high-gradient ascites. A low-gradient ascites in connection with the Syndrome rarely occurs in case of alveolar echinococcosis of the liver. Here we report a 20-year-old man with the syndrome and low-gradient ascites due to a huge liver mass. Further diagnostic examination revealed alveolar echinococcosis of the liver. Diuretic agents and albendazole were used as palliative therapy in the case.Publication Metadata only A case of CD4+/CD56+ hematodermic neoplasm (plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm).(2010-04-15T00:00:00Z) Su, ÖZLEM SU; Onsun, N; Demirkesen, C; Aydin, Y; Pirmit, S; Gereli, M; SU KÜÇÜK, ÖZLEMPublication Metadata only A Case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever with Long Incubation Period in Kocaeli, Turkey(2012-01-01T00:00:00Z) Koc, MELİHA; Willke, Ayse; MERİÇ KOÇ, MELİHACrimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a viral hemorrhagic disease with high mortality rate. CCHF is endemic in Central Anatolia and East and Central Black Sea parts of Turkey, however sporadic cases have been detected in the other regions. The incubation period of the disease is between 1-3 days (maximum 12 days). In this report, a very rare CCHF case with a long incubation period of 30 days, was reported. A 40-year-old female patient living in a village of Kocaeli, Turkey was admitted to a health center in June 2010 with the complaints of headache, myalgia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and fever. Since laboratory results revealed severe thrombocytopenia (18.300/mm(3)), the patient was referred to the university hospital in Kocaeli. It was learned from her history that she had been working in the garden and removed a tick from the skin of gluteal area a month ago without seeking any medical help. Physical examination of the patient revealed that her general condition was well, oriented and cooperative, body temperature was 36.6 degrees C, pulse 82/minute, trombocyte count 69.400/mm(3) and liver enzymes were elevated (ALT: 194 U/L, AST: 499 U/L, GGT: 384 U/L, LDH: 1290 U/L). Petecchial lesions were seen on hard palate and extremities and a hyperemic lesion was detected at the gluteal area where the tick had attached. In-house real-time polymerase chain reaction test for CCHF, performed at Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency, Virology Reference and Research Laboratory, revealed positive result. This case was presented to withdraw attention to a long incubation period CCHF and also of its epidemiological importance since it was the first case in Kocaeli province, Turkey.Publication Metadata only A CASE OF L-2 HYDROXYGLUTARIC ACIDURIA PRESENTING AS FEBRILE SEIZURE(2014-01-01) Calik, M.; Tuncer, F. N.; Sarikaya, S.; Karakas, O.; Cece, H.; Iscan, AKIN; İŞCAN, AKINA case of L-2 hydroxyglutaric aciduria presenting as febrile seizure: L-2 hydroxyglutaric aciduria (L2HGA) is a rare, infantile-onset, autosomal recessive organic aciduria affecting exclusively the central nervous system. A case is reported here of L2HGA presenting with macrocephaly and febrile seizure. Although there have been reports of epilepsy associated with L2HGA, to the best of our knowledge this is the second case in literature of febrile seizure in a patient with L2HGA. This report suggests that detailed neurological evaluation of macrocephalic children with febrile convulsion is important. Moreover, metabolic and genetic investigations may be necessary for these kinds of patients.Publication Metadata only A case of metastatic breast cancer successfully treated with lapatinib plus capecitabine therapy.(2011-02-01T00:00:00Z) KEFELI, U; BILICI, A; USTAALIOĞLU, BB; KEFELI, AU; YILDIRIM, MEHMET ŞİRİN; Seker, MESUT; GUMUS, M; YILDIRIM, MEHMET ŞİRİN; ŞEKER, MESUTPublication Metadata only A case of multi-drug-resistant, intracranial tuberculomas, presenting with headache(2013-10-01T00:00:00Z) YÜREKLİ, Vedat Ali; KAYA, Onur; Aydin, Fidan Incekara; BİRCAN, HACI AHMET; KUTLUHAN, Süleyman; KAYAN, Mustafa; Gonen, Ibak; BİRCAN, HACI AHMETPublication Metadata only A case of newly diagnosed klippel trenaunay weber syndrome presenting with nephrotic syndrome.(2015-01-01T00:00:00Z) CEBECI, E; DEMIR, S; Gursu, MELTEM; SUMNU, A; YAMAK, M; DONER, B; KARADAG, S; UZUN, S; BEHLUL, A; OZKAN, O; OZTURK, S; GÜRSU, MELTEMPublication Metadata only A case of primary immune deficiency presenting with nephrotic syndrome.(2010-10-01T00:00:00Z) AYDIN, Z; Gursu, MELTEM; OZTURK, S; KILICASLAN, I; Kazancioglu, RÜMEYZA; GÜRSU, MELTEM; KAZANCIOĞLU, RÜMEYZAPublication Metadata only A case of split notochord syndrome: Presenting with respiratory failure in the neonatal period(2016-05-01T00:00:00Z) Coskun, Yesim; Akman, Ipek; Demir, Mustafa Kemal; Yapicier, Ozlem; Somuncu, SALİH; SOMUNCU, SALİHSplit notochord syndrome (SNS) is a very rare congenital anomaly. It is commonly originated from the stomach, colon, pancreas, and less commonly in the bladder. Prognosis of the classical type is worse than the adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Primary signet cell adenocarcinoma is diagnosed by eliminating the adenocarcinomas of other organs such as gastrointestinal tract organs. In this case report, we present a case with primary signet cell adenocarcinoma of the prostate who received docetaxel chemotherapy because of short prostate specific antigen doubling time.Publication Metadata only A child with bilateral multiple renal cysts presenting with ascites and pleural effusion: Answers.(2019-09-01T00:00:00Z) Ağbaş, Ayşe; Aksu, Bağdagül; Doğan, Güzide; İkizceli, Türkan; Selçuk, Hatice Nilgün Duru; Elevli, Murat; DOĞAN, GÜZİDEPublication Metadata only A child with bilateral multiple renal cysts presenting with ascites and pleural effusion: Questions and Answers(2019-09-01T00:00:00Z) Agbas, Ayse; Aksu, Bagdagul; Dogan, Güzide; Ikizceli, Turkan; Selcuk, Hatice Nilgun Duru; Elevli, Murat; DOĞAN, GÜZİDEPublication Metadata only A class of sulfonamides as carbonic anhydrase I and II inhibitors(2016-12-01T00:00:00Z) GOKCEN, Taner; GÜLÇİN, İlhami; OZTURK, Turan; Goren, AHMET CEYHAN; GÖREN, AHMET CEYHANFour groups of novel sulfonamide derivatives: (i) acetoxybenzamide, (ii) triacetoxybenzamide, (iii) hydroxybenzamide and (iv) trihydroxybenzamide, all having thiazole, pyrimidine, pyridine, isoxazole and thiadiazole moieties were prepared and their inhibitory effects were studied on two metalloenzymes, i.e. carbonic anhydrase isozymes (hCA I and II), purified from human erythrocyte cells by Sepharose-4B-l-tyrosine-sulfanilamide affinity chromatography. These enzymes are present in almost all living organisms to catalyse the synthesis of bicarbonate ion (HCO3-) from carbon dioxide and water. The sulfonamide derivatives were found to be active against hCA I and II in the range of 2.62-136.54 and 5.74-210.58nM, respectively.Publication Metadata only A class of sulfonamides with strong inhibitory action against the α-carbonic anhydrase from Trypanosoma cruzi.(2013-07-25) GÜZEL-AKDEMIR, Ö; Akdemir, ATİLLA; PAN, P; VERMELHO, AB; PARKKILA, S; SCOZZAFAVA, A; CAPASSO, C; SUPURAN, CT; AKDEMİR, ATİLLAPublication Metadata only A Combined Power M-mode and Single Gate Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound Microemboli Signal Criteria for Improving Emboli Detection and Reliability(2010-10-01T00:00:00Z) CHOI, Youngbin; Saqqur, Maher; Asil, TALİP; JIN, Albert; STEWART, Eileen; STEPHENSON, Caroline; Ibrahim, Mohamad; ROY, Jayanta; BOULANGER, Jean-Martin; COUTTS, Shelagh; KHAN, Firosh; DEMCHUK, Andrew M.; ASİL, TALIPBACKGROUND AND PURPOSEPublication Metadata only A Combined Power M-Mode and Spectrogram TCD Microemboli Signal Criteria for Improving Emboli Detection and Reliability(2010-03-02T00:00:00Z) CHOI, Youngbin; SAQQUR, Maher; JIN, Albert; STEWART, Eileen; STEPHENSON, Caroline; IBRAHIM, Mohamed; BOULANGER, Jean-Martin; COUTTS, Shelagh; DEMCHUK, Andrew; Asil, TALİP; ASİL, TALIPPublication Metadata only A comparison between rate of nonmotor symptom development in essential tremor and Parkinson-s disease.(2015-09-01T00:00:00Z) BAKIM, BAHADIR; Sengul, YILDIZHAN; SENGUL, HS; Sural, MK; FORTA, H; ŞENGÜL, YILDIZHANPublication Metadata only A comparison of different proportions of a ketamine-propofol mixture administered in a single injection for patients undergoing colonoscopy.(2015-06-19T00:00:00Z) Aydogmus, MELTEM; Türk, HS; Oba, S; Gokalp, O; TÜRKAY, MELTEM
